Stone Technologies, Corp. has launched two new concrete repair products. RX-1 Repair and Seal fills and repairs holes and cracks in concrete while simultaneously waterproofing them. RX-2 Concentrate is a slurry skim coating that is applied over existing concrete structures to waterproof them.

RX-1 Repair and Seal

RX-1 Repair and Seal is a permanent, high-performance hydraulic cement compound that has been enhanced using crystalline waterproofing technology. It will stop moisture and water from penetrating through the concrete repair. It has been specifically designed to repair and patch holes and cracks in interior or exterior concrete structures either above or below grade. Use in basements, garages, foundations, swimming pools, ponds, fountains, drains, holding tanks, slabs, footings, reservoirs, piers, retaining, and sea walls. Also, used to repair defects in concrete prior to the application of RX-2 Concentrate.

RX-1 Repair and Seal is extremely fast-setting (less than 5 minutes). It expands as it sets so it is non-shrink and has a high structural and bond strength. Typical results for compressive strength (ASTM C109) are 2100psi after 24 hours, 3100psi after 7 days, and 4500psi after 28 days. Use to stop the active flow of water through cracks and holes even under constant water pressure and underwater applications.

Application

RX-1 Repair and Seal is easy to prepare by simply mixing 3.5 parts with 1 part of warm water by volume at 60-70F to form a stiff putty consistency. Do not mix large quantities as this product will harden in 3 minutes. Form the putty into a plug and press firmly into the repair until it hardens which will be less than 5 minutes.

A 60-pound pail of RX-1 Repair and Seal will produce approximately 0.5 cubic feet of mortar or 1 pound of product will patch 1 linear foot of crack measuring 1” wide x 1.5” deep.

RX-2 Concentrate

RX-2 Concentrate is a permanent, high-quality Portland cement with built-in crystalline waterproofing technology. Use to waterproof and protect existing concrete structures. Apply as a cementitious slurry coating to interior or exterior concrete structures either above or below grade.

RX-2 Concentrate prevents the penetration of water by reacting with the lime in the concrete to form insoluble crystals These form within the pores and capillaries to become an integral part of the concrete and act as a moisture barrier. Use in basements, garages, foundations, swimming pools, ponds, fountains, drains, holding tanks, slabs, footings, reservoirs, piers, retaining, and sea walls.

The concrete surface must be absorbent, completely clean, and free of dirt, coatings, paint, or any other foreign matter. Test the absorbency with a few droplets of water and make sure they absorb within 20 to 30 seconds, if they do not absorb then sandblast the concrete or treat it with Eco Concrete Etcher or muriatic acid.

Application

RX-2 Concentrate is easy to apply using either a semi-stiff nylon brush, push broom, or a sprayer. For brush application blend 5 parts RX-2 Concentrate with 2 parts clean water by volume (for spray application use 3 parts of water) and mix to a creamy consistency. Do not mix large quantities as this product will harden in 20 minutes. Do not add water once the mix starts to harden.

The surface must be completely wet out with clean water prior to application. It must remain wet during the application to facilitate the waterproofing reaction and curing process. Apply at a thickness of 1/16″ (1.25 mm). If you require a second coat, then apply as soon as the first coat has cured and not longer than 48 hours later, and use light watering between coats. As soon as it hardens spray a fine mist to assist the curing process. Under normal conditions, it is sufficient to spray the treated surfaces three times a day for 2 to 3 days. In hot or arid climates spray more frequently. Protect the coating during the curing period from rain and frost.

Each pound of RX-2 Concentrate will cover approximately 6 to 9 square feet of concrete per application. A 60-pound pail will cover 400 to 500 square feet of concrete with a single application.
